Non-Profit Organisation & Student Club Around Jakarta
Empowering individuals, one paintbrush at a time.
About us
WHO we are
Paint Your History is a passion-fuelled nonprofit organisation that collaborates with a government-formed alliance club to unite underprivileged children from local Indonesian communities with their ardour for art, providing them with the opportunity to express themselves through a paintbrush.
our mission
We aim to offer financial stability to low-income communities through creative expression while preserving Indonesia's distinct heritage in an ever-changing world. Children from these communities get a chance to embrace their heritage by incorporating cultural aspects into their own designs. These designs become merchandise items where the proceeds to go supporting their community. This program will allow these aspiring artisans to become self-reliant while also fostering a community within themselves that honours timeless cultural traditions.
Hey!
From your co-founders
isabel sara pangestu
Hey There! My name is Isabel Pangestu. I am currently a senior in British School Jakarta. Growing up, I found solace in creating artwork and was confident this piece of identity would accompany me down any path I take forward. Last year August, I became a volunteer in assisting residents of Rusunawa Pesakih, a low-income housing cluster in Tangerang. I volunteered for the Lions Club who chose to initiate weekly art classes from 3 to 5 pm. Guiding the kids through their art pieces, I was so fascinated by the different patterns and motives that were expressed on each canvas. The subtle differences between each line and colour nurtured growth of appreciation in me for the beauty that lies beneath Indonesia’s heritage. As I spent more days teaching the children, I became more exposed to the financial constraints that follow their families. I aspired to help these young artisans by devising an on-going program that would allow them to provide a stable future for themselves independently. Progressing to reach that goal, I hope to show that art not just a product of talent or freedom of expression, but also a versatile application that allows people worldwide to use as they create limitless innovations.

Hey, I’m Ellen! I am a rising senior at the British School Jakarta. For me, art and entrepreneurship are two fields that constantly challenge my creativity: something I have always been passionate about. Living in Jakarta, I became aware of the prevalence of low-income communities and was inspired and felt compelled to start an initiative that would help them achieve financial stability. I was introduced to the Lion Club and their cause by my friend Isabel and I thought that it would be a great start to this journey. Through this, I am working to nurture the growth of the children's artistic abilities by means of exploring the beauty in Indonesia’s culture while also providing them with an opportunity to create something of their own within their own business venture. Furthermore, as confidence is paramount in both on canvas and in enterprise, I hope to inspire the children to express themselves boldly while also empowering them to feel proud of who they are.

Hi, I’m Adella Sugiarso. I am a senior at Jakarta Intercultural School. History has always been one of my favorite subjects growing up, and I’ve come to realize how important it is to know your history. I’ve been learning Indonesian history since primary school. I’m always fascinated by how rich and diverse the history of Indonesia is. However, I also realize that most Indonesians are unaware of their own history because it is not taught well in Indonesian schools. I came to this project through my friends Isabel and Ellen. I believe that teaching children to paint about Indonesian culture would inspire them to learn more about Indonesian history. I’m hoping that Paint Your History would show people that history can be taught in a fun and enjoyable way that would fascinate people.
